I love to cook

I was a little frustrated, a little bored and had little cash on me today. So I decided to use the most abundant resource in my house: flour. I don't usually have flour in my house but this was leftover from the shortbread cookies I made for christmas. After a little research on the net, I decided to make pizzas. And so this is the result: baked fresh from scratch. I even made the base myself. At first I didn't think it would turn out because it was so sticky and stringy (not like in the pictures)! But after rising for 1.25 hours and 5 minutes in the oven, it was ready for topping!

Since I was low on cash, my main ingredient was garlic. Mmmm...antibacterial goodness. Home made pizza + Matilda and Charlie's Angels on tv made for a lovely dark and stormy night in.

Two weeks ago, Whaij was on holiday so he came over and made this fantastic dessert. It had 3 layers of puff pastry. The top sandwich had a banana pancake type thing, whereas caramelised pears were positioned between the bottom 2 layers of puff pastry. The fillings were drizzled in raspberry coulis, and the whole dish was dusted with icing sugar. Really professional looking, and very nice. Its a more mature dessert because it wasn't garishly sweet. A little bit more coulis would have been welcomed.

I really enjoy cooking. ♥

comfort food

I was in Malaysia and found a new product: honey stars...only in berry flavour! Honey stars is one of the food items on my "must-eat list" when I go home so I was quite surprised to see this noob on the product shelf. My initial reaction was delight. And then scepticism. So I reached out for my usual box of honey stars, hugged it and brought it back to Sydney with me. Its still unopened. Maybe one day when I'm feeling really sad/crap/homesick ill open it and have a piece of my homeland soaked in calcium goodness. If you wanna try some, pop by and ask. Honey stars only. No newfangled Generation-Z berry stars... o.O

Dippy Eggs

I don't think I ever really understood the concept of egg cups. Maybe because all I have been exposed to are half-boiled eggs, where the whole egg is still runny and you eat it with soya sauce + white pepper; or hard-boiled eggs where the whole egg is solid. Both are difficult to eat with an egg cup.

One day someone asks, "say how long do you boil Dippy Eggs for?" I looked at him blankly (like I always do). What on earth are Dippy Eggs!?

Apparently they're 3-quarter boiled eggs where the white is cooked but the yolk is still runny. You then proceed to toast bread, butter them and cut them into strips = "Bread Soldiers". Dip General Wholegrain into the yolk and eat. Repeat.

Transfixed! Astounded! Astonished and Gobsmacked!!

I not only finally understood what egg cups were for, I have also found a new food to try. So I proceeded to cut out an egg carton and make an egg cup, of which this took about 5 or so days (glazing took 3 days).

12 March 2007 was the first day I had ever had Dippy Eggs. It was abit bland, not quite as a magical as I thought it would be. Suffice to say I don't think I would ever crave it. Its a pretty cool concept though, and I'm really happy to have learnt yet another aspect of Aussie culture.

Sky Static

How mad was the lightening storm last night! I got lucky on my first shot. :D I reckon getting struck by lightening and dying instantly would be a pretty cool way of going to Heaven.

Music to listen to while watching a lightening storm: Emmanuel - The Katinas.

Thanks Mang for the added 40 Gigs. Gonna move my music library into its very own pad. Sweet. :)
